Intro Text

The Infinite Music @ Music Generation dlr programme has been chosen as one of the 15 finalists in Google's Impact Challenge Dublin.  The Infinite Music is an inclusive music performance programme for young people aged 3 - 14 years with special educational needs.

Music Generation dlr is working with schools and early years settings doing amazing work with children and young people with special educational needs. Together, we have developed a dynamic music programme for 3-14 year olds, created to meet their unique needs and abilities. The programmes are designed to provide these young people with the opportunity to participate in music performance and to contribute to future developments for Music Generation dlr, from choirs to instrumental ensembles, so that all our group programming becomes inclusive for all children and young people.

For those with educational challenges, emotional needs or physical limitations, music is a powerful path to self-expression, developing their confidence, sharing their world and their ideas with others and participating in something that brings them joy. This support from Google.org Impact Challenge Dublin allows us to invest in cutting-edge technology so that every child and young person participating in the programme can enjoy the most accessible, creative and inclusive music-making experience possible. It enables training and support for our dedicated team of skilled musician-educators to deliver a programme to the highest standards of excellence.

An Cathaoirleach, Councillor Ossian Smyth commented:

Our county is honoured enough to be part of the Music Generation programme. The work begin undertaken in the county by our Music Generation Development Officer Dr. Jenny O'Connor Madsen is clearly having an impact in our community and I am delighted to hear of Music Generation dlr success in this prestigious competition. Please show your support for the Infinite Music initiative in the coming days by logging on and voting."

Chief Executive, Ms. Philomena Poole commented:

Music Generation has brought a rich programme of music to the young people of dlr. I have attended workshops where my heart is just uplifted to see the sheer joy on the faces of the children as they play small violins and big drums. This award from google allows us to widen the programme and reach those who may not have been able to participate otherwise. The partnership of technology and music in dlr will have a deep and lasting impact and I am so glad to be welcoming the programme to the County"

The competition is open to local non-profit and social organisations dedicated to tackling important social issues and creating opportunity for Dublin.   All finalists receive €50,000 programme funding from Google and now move into the public vote to choose the overall winner of the competition with the chance to win a further €50,000 for their programme. Voting is open from 19 - 26 March.

Members of the public can cast their vote for their favourite idea here from noon on 19 March until 26 March.
