Works are due to commence on a number of cycle schemes in early 2020. These include the construction of a cycle route on Drummartin Link Road and Kilgobbin Road (Beacon Hospital to Hilcrest Road) and the construction of a cycle scheme along Stillorgan Road near UCD, including upgrades to The Rise and Fosters Avenue junctions. The National Transport Authority funding will also be used to progress the design of a number of schemes including the design of the Merrion Gates to Seapoint Cycle Route, the Clonskeagh Road Cycle route (UCD to Clonskeagh), cycle routes in Sandyford and a cycle improvement scheme on Brewery Road near the N11.
An Cathaoirleach, Cllr Shay Brennan stated,
I welcome the announcement that over €9.0million of funding will be provide for cycle schemes in 2020. This is well over twice the amount of funding provided in recent years and this higher allocation of funding will be key to developing safe segregated cycling facilities along key routes in the County, thus creating a more continuous direct cycle network”.
