Welcoming the call out for artists, Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said:
The completion of the artists’ studios and provision of additional project funding delivers on a key action of our Council’s Arts Plan. After years of hard work by the Council, I am proud to see the Baths studios prepare to open, providing essential workspaces for our local artists to the benefit of the whole community.
These opportunities are funding by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office, the Arts Council, Creative Ireland and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
The Council’s Arts Development Plan identified the lack of accessible artist workspaces as the key barrier to artists career progression in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. The studio complex at Dún Laoghaire Baths, with additional funding awards, seek to address this challenge and support the career of local artists.
The Council currently supports artist and craftworker spaces in Mart Studios at the Grainstore, Cabinteely and the Marlay Craft Courtyard, Rathfarnham. Acknowledging the growing need for sustainable artist workspaces, further consultation with artists will take place in early 2023 to inform future arts workspace developments.
