DLR Rivers at Risk - Map

A significant number of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown rivers and streams are failing to meet good water quality standards.

The main causes are urban wastewater, surface water run-off, and physical changes to our rivers (Hydromorphology). Poor water quality harms public health, wildlife, and local water amenities. Flooding and drought  because of climate change are also major factors that need to be considered.

The Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO) invite you to a public consultation meeting on the Draft River Basin Management Plan for Ireland 2022-2027. Darragh O’Brien, Minister for Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, and Malcolm Noonan, Minister of State for Heritage at DHLGH published the draft plan on September 27th, 2021, for a six-month public consultation closing on March 31st, 2022.

LAWPRO, as a local authority shared service is supporting the Department with the draft plan by delivering local level engagement and hosting public consultation meetings online.

You can register to attend the online consultation here. The meeting will be recorded and held for 3 days only, to allow for post meeting gathering of public comments.

A detiled map of the affected rivers is available below, and more information can be found in the related documents on this page.

This meeting will provide you with information on water quality in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown waters.

For more details, contact your local Community Water Officer Dónal O’Keeffe dokeeffe@lawaters.ie or LAWPRO Head Office at 052 616 6237.

This is a very important piece of work and plan for dlr in terms of improving the water quality standards and biodiversity in our rivers and streams.
