Volvo Dún Laoghaire Regatta 2019 sails into town!
Proudly co-sponsored by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council the Volvo Dún Laoghaire Regatta runs from 11 - 14 July from Dún Laoghaire Harbour. This biennial event is now in it's 8th edition having first taken place in 2005, going from strength to strength on each occasion and is now firmly established as one of the major regattas in Ireland and the British Isles.
This year there are over 500 boats & 2,500 sailors, half of whom are from overseas. The event has participant sailors from England, Scotland, Wales, the Isle of Man and all corners of Ireland North and South and we look forward to welcoming entrants this year from as far away as Hong Kong!
As well as providing an incredible visual spectacle in the local area, the Regatta bring with it welcome benefits to the local Dún Laoghaire economy over the four days with thousands participants, their supporters and visitors in town. This is the first time the Regatta has taken place with the Harbour under Council ownership and the Regatta fully utilizes the Harbour as the wonderful recreational amenity that it is. There is a huge amount of effort put in by the Volvo Dún Laoghaire Regatta organising committee up to a year in advance to enable this event to come alive for everybody involved and those watching.
The Regatta brings a very special festival atmosphere around the town with the spectacle of Harbour finishes and family attractions for the local community all along the East Pier on Sunday 14 July.
It only comes around once every two years so make sure you come on down to Dún Laoghaire and the surrounding coastline this weekend to witness the largest maritime festival on the Irish Sea!
