Dun Laoghaire
Intro Text

Council launch consultation on future of the immediate Dún Laoghaire area, call for public and stakeholder participation in surveys.

Dún Laoghaire Harbour came into the ownership of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council in October 2018.  This has been a positive development for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County.  Dún Laoghaire Harbour and Dun Laoghaire town have, for many years, been perceived as two separate entities.

Given their close proximity and their value to the County and its citizens, it is important for both that there are stronger connections between them recognising that the economic, social and leisure development of each is vital to the other.

To inform the future development of the Town and Harbour, a number of studies are being undertaken by the Council in association with KPMG and Indecon. The aim of the studies is to set out a clear and coherent vision to assist the ongoing development and strategic planning of both Dún Laoghaire Harbour and Dún Laoghaire Town given the synergies and interdependencies between both.

The Council want to hear what the public, business owners and anyone who has an interest in the area want to say about any future developments of Dún Laoghaire Harbour and Dún Laoghaire town.  Everyone is invited to complete any of all all of the 3 specific surveys involved in this consultation.

The surveys are based around:
• Business in the area (aimed at business owners generally)
• Town & Harbour development generally (general public)
• Harbour specifically (general public)

Speaking of the launch of the survey, An Cathaoirleach Cllr Una Power commented:

“These surveys are a very important part of engaging with people in general, business owners and those who have interests in the area. I would really encourage everyone to take part. Your ideas and aspirations will help inform how future plan for the area are framed and developed.”

The public consultation on an Economic Plan for Dún Laoghaire Harbour and Spatial & Economic Plan for Dún Laoghaire Town will involve a number of targeted stakeholder engagement session as well as the wider public consultation surveys.

Access to the surveys can be found on the Councils Consultation Hub at and the closing date for submissions is 28 February 2021.
