Dun Laoghaire Rathdown were delighted to attend the Pride of Place Awards ceremony which took place on Saturday 30th November in Lyrath Estate Kilkenny.  Pride of Place is a national awards ceremony with groups represented from the four corners of Ireland and 2019 marked the 17th year of the event.  The Awards provide an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the wealth of people and projects across our country which all contribute to make this a vibrant place to live.

This year Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council were honoured to have four groups represented, Meadowlands Fitzgerald Park Estate Management, The National Maritime Museum, The  Men’s Shed Forum and Making Connections.  All of the groups who took part selflessly work to improve the areas where they live and we would like to thank them for their ongoing commitment and contribution.

Two groups from Dun Laoghaire Rathdown were recognised for their valuable contributions:

  • Meadowlands Fitzgerald Park Estate Management received a runners up award in the Housing Estates category
  • The National Maritime Museum received a special award for “…an exceptional showcase of a heritage that is of the utmost importance and international interest……”

It is wonderful to have the contributions of local groups acknowledged and celebrated at a national level.  The energy and effort these groups put in to improving the areas where they live is inspirational.

Speaking after the event An Leas Cathaoirleach Deirdre Donnelly said “It was great to be a part of such a prestigious event and to leave with two awards was superb.  These awards help to celebrate the excellent work achieved by our volunteers and groups working together, striving to make a difference in their respective communities.”
