Award Winning Architecture in dlr!

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s Architects Department won awards for the Georges’ Place housing development, Dun Laoghaire in two categories, ‘Sustainability’ and ‘Living - Housing Schemes’ from the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland on 7 June 2019. The prestigious RIAI Awards recognise the best of each year’s architecture and the contribution of clients to achieving quality in the built environment.

An Cathaoirleach Councillor Shay Brennan said “In setting out our ambition for this project, dlr wanted sustainably designed and well-constructed quality houses which achieved a Building Energy Rating (BER) A1 standard. These award winning houses are consistent with our ethos of providing bright, spacious, comfortable accommodation with excellent indoor air quality and low running costs for our tenants”.

Georges’ Place was also a finalist in the European Responsible Housing awards held in Lyon on 6 June, 2019. The houses, which are factory built and assembled on the former council depot site, are “nZEB” or near Zero Energy Buildings and have achieved a BER A1.  Each home is equipped with a heat pump, photovoltaic energy generating panels for hot water and heating and has triple-glazed windows.

The RIAI organises and presents a range of Architectural Awards to acknowledge and promote the best work being carried out by Irish Architects in particular categories at a particular time.

In further success for the dlr Architects Department at the RIAI Awards the Sallynoggin Community & Senior Centre was highly commended in the wellbeing category, while the Monkstown Village Project  was commended in the public space category at the RIAI awards.

The World NZEB Forum conference in November is supported by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and will be held in Killiney with workshops and site visits around Dún Laoghaire. For more information please see here https://worldnzebforum2019.com/
