An Cathaoirleach Cllr Shay Brennan, who is a Council Cycling Champion, welcomed the continued provision of cycle parking to schools and stated, “I welcome this initiative and hope it will encourage more pupils to cycle to school. I am also looking forward to seeing some schools in the County commencing a Cycling Bus or a Walking Bus in 2020, following the issuing of guidelines to schools”.
Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council actively promotes cycling as a safe healthy travel mode and is currently developing a number of cycling infrastructure schemes on key corridors in the County. The Council also supports the delivery of cycle training to 5th and 6th class students as part of the Cycle Right cycle training programme developed by the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport with about 1500 pupils trained each year in the County. A county cycle map and off road cycle route leaflets are available to help cyclists plan their routes when cycling in the County and these can be found here; http://www.dlrcoco.ie/en/travel-transport/traffic-management/cycling
