Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Public Participation Network (PPN) has today issued an invitation to community and voluntary groups in the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown area to join their local PPN and help build a better future for the county.

Councillor Mary Hanafin, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said:

I am pleased to support the work of the DLR PPN.  The assistance it brings in having the voice of local community groups heard within the County, as well as the vital support it provides to those same groups, is not to be underestimated.  It also provides a useful channel through which the Council can reach out to the Network’s member groups and has assisted most recently in the work of the Community Response Forum, initially in relation to the response to the Covid pandemic and more recently in response to the arrival of displaced Ukrainians in the County.

The Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Public Participation Network is an independent network of community, voluntary, social inclusion and environmental organisations, active in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County area with over 569 member groups.

Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said:

The PPN provides a vital link through which community groups can get involved in the policy-making of the County Council through its nomination of members to sit on the Council’s Strategic Policy Committees under the community and voluntary, social inclusion and environment pillars.  The PPN has proved to be a useful addition to the stakeholders with whom we consult and a good way to have local voices heard.

Public Participation Networks allow local authorities to connect with community groups around their county and give people a greater say in local government decisions that affect their communities.
