Orchestral Ages

Music is one of life’s great joys for people of all ages. It’s been proven to have a positive impact on people’s mental health, reduces stress and can be accessed in many different ways from listening to music to playing in a band.  There is a hive of people of all ages getting involved in playing instruments, together in ensembles and participating in the Newpark Concert Orchestra, a community orchestra based in Newtown Music Centre .

‘Orchestral Ages’ was a project that celebrated intergenerational music making. Local youth ensembles joined forces with Newpark Concert Orchestra and performed the newly commissioned work, 'A Day in the Life' by composer Vincent Kennedy. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council commissioned the new composition which was performed at Culture Night 2018 in dlr LexIcon. The newly composed piece was unveiled to the public on 21 September 2018.
