dlr Cruinniú na nÓg 2021

We hope you joined dlr Libraries, Music Generation dlr and dlr Arts Office for the annual national day of Creativity & Culture for Children and young People across dlr on Saturday 12 June!

We are keeping the following resources live until the end of August 2021 so you can keep creating over the summer months...........

Ideas and resources for developing pretend play for 3-5 year olds

Children’s toys can be very expensive and there’s often little choice if you’re trying to avoid an avalanche of plastic. For Cruinniú na nÓg 2021 explore easy ways to make toys and props to enhance children’s pretend play in these two videos created by drama facilitator Joanna Parkes. Discover that with a bit of time and effort, you can quite easily make simple props such as salt dough pastries, felt flowers and pretend pizza. These pretend props will last a long time and give the children in your care hours of imaginative fun.

These videos are aimed at parents and Early Years Practitioners who would like to get a little messy and have some fun themselves while making simple toys and props for children’s make-believe play.

Joanna has created the stories ‘The Queen who’d never tired pizza’ and 'The King who loved his garden' that you can download and use to set the scene for lots of imaginative play. She's also created addtional resources to give you ideas about how to use the stories and props.
