Event Description

Come join Wicklow Willow to make traditional St. Brigid’s crosses from rushes, to display in your home.

Drop-in event, booking not required

Did you know St Brigid’s crosses have been made for millennia in Ireland and were said to have a protective effect if hung up in a home? There is a wealth of lore about St Brigid, whose feast day lands on 1 February, which is also the date of a pre-Christian festival known as Imbolc and much of the lore and folk history about St Brigid is entwined with an even more ancient deity known as Brigit, a Celtic spring goddess that was associated with wisdom, poetry, healing, protection and fertility.
