Sports Development in DLRCC
The mission statement of the Sports Development Office is:
“to increase participation in sporting and recreational activities throughout the county, across all groups”.
Since September 2002, when the Sports Development Office was born, participation in sport across the county has greatly increased. Council-owned facilities have been developed and grants have been allocated to clubs and groups throughout the county to aid with the building of facilities, purchase of equipment etc.
We have compiled a database of contacts in the county for clubs and groups, and provide regular updates on training and funding opportunities.
We run holiday sports camps, weekly sports coaching, coach training programmes, after-school sports programmes, older adults activities and child protection awareness training throughout the county.

What is Sports Development?
Sports Development is about coordinating and promoting sporting and leisure opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds.
It provides opportunities for people to try out new activities and to participate at a level that is comfortable by developing facilities, delivering programmes and breaking down barriers to participation.
The aim of Sports Development in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown is to increase awareness of sport and recreation throughout the County, of local sports clubs and to increase opportunities for people to participate by promoting activities.
Sports Development also addresses inequalities in participation levels, and instigates fundamental programmes to improve physical condition and wellbeing, and promote involvement in physical activity.
The Sports Development Team works directly with communities and involves them in the design and delivery of sports and recreation programmes for their area, providing a opportunity for young and not so young people to engage in a positive alternative and develop a range of lifeskills including team work fair play etc.
