Sarah Cassidy, Energy Officer commented:
It is our collective responsibilty to build a more sustainable and energy efficiency County, and we continue to positively influence this by meeting energy and climate change targets. We are looking to energy future-proof the county through reduced dependence on fossil fuels. Examples of this include promoting the use of IS399 Energy Efficient Design which is a holistic design overview of a process or building project.
One great example of this is Rochestown House which is a deep retrofit to EnerPHit standard that provides wonderful housing accommodation and is already a sustainability RIAI Award Winner. New housing is being designed to nZEB and Passive House standards and current pilots include deep energy retrofits of different house types that can be replicated elsewhere."
Central to dlr's County Development Plan, is an aspiration to be carbon neutral. dlr's Energy Team uses energy credits to part fund the roll-out of energy projects and has trialled innovative projects including using Public Lighting infrastructure for additional uses, supported indigenous green business for effective monitoring and control of energy consumption and cost.
dlr has also signed up for the Convenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy which aims to deliver concrete, long term measures that provide an environmentally, socially and economically stable environment for present and future generations.
