MONKSTOWN VILLAGE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SCHEME

NON STATUTORY PUBLIC CONSULTATION

Monkstown Village Traffic Management Scheme - Further Details and Drawing

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council are proposing to implement road safety measures for Monkstown Village.

The proposed scheme includes for raising the existing signalised pedestrian crossings on the approach into the village on Monkstown Road (near Goggins pub) and on Carrickbrennan Road (near Alma Place).  A new signalised raised pedestrian crossing is proposed across Monkstown Crescent (near junction with Clifton Avenue), and raised uncontrolled crossing points on Monkstown Crescent (near theLink Road), and across Clifton Avenue.

A raised platform will also be provided on the end of the Carrickbrennan Road to reduce vehicle speeds, and to create a more pedestrian friendly space between the shops and the Church.  The proposals also include for alterations of junctions and traffic lanes, to achieve reductions in vehicle speeds through the village centre, and restricting Clifton Avenue to a one-way system Northbound, all of which will result in a net gain of parking spaces within the village.

The scheme is designed to significantly improve road safety for pedestrians, by way of a reduction in traffic speeds, together with improved crossing points and simplification of the junction layouts.

Plans illustrating the above scheme will be on display from Thursday 23rd  August, 2012 to Thursday 20th September, 2012 at DLRCC County Hall, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire Co.Dublin.

Plans are also available to download on Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown’s website :-www.dlrcoco.ie DLRCC welcomes comments and observations, particularly from people with disabilities.
