Works are progressing well and on schedule. It is envisaged that the external glazing will be installed prior to Christmas with the internal fit-out phase commencing early in the new year.

The Library will close from Monday 16th July for approximately one year for refurbishment. Cabinteely Library will open every Friday and Saturday from the week beginning Tuesday, 7th August.
Deansgrange Library opened to the public in 1982. This distinctive octagonal building has been at the heart of the community for almost thirty years. It is the busiest library in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown.
The Deansgrange library service was recently upgraded with the installation of two self-service kiosks and a new information desk. This was a first step in a planned programme to extend and improve facilities in the library. An exciting new extension will commence this Summer. Planning permission for the project was approved under the Part 8 process in 2010.
The refurbished library will comprise of the refurbishment & extension of the c.690m2 existing single storey building. It will be extended by c.110m2 to create a more visible and transparent building for both those using the library and for those passing by. Sections of the existing façade will be removed and the ground floor extended out with a new glazed elevation. The entrance space will feature a double height glazed space, which will also act as an exhibition area. This double height entrance volume will serve to clearly identify the entrance to the library.
The existing library areas will be completely refurbished, including new furniture, fittings & lighting. New accessible public toilets will be introduced together with improved kitchen facilities and staff areas. The existing oil powered heating system will be upgraded to use natural gas.
The external area to the front of the library will also be upgraded to provide a plaza with hard & soft areas of landscaping. Details of the scheme may be viewed by entering reference number PC/08/10 in the planning applications search on www.dlrcoco.ie

Funding in the amount of €850k will be spent on the Deansgrange Library development, with the money being allocated from Section 48 development contributions and the Council's own resources.
