Press Release - 2 New Community LibrariesDún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to announce the launch of two new community libraries, Loughlinstown Community Library and Sallynoggin Community Library. Loughlinstown Community Library was launched on Thursday 7th April in St. Columbanus National School by An Cathaoirleach Cllr Lettie McCarthy and the inimitable Paul Howard. Howard is a past pupil of the school and the author of the enormously successful Ross O’Carroll-Kelly series. The development of Loughlinstown Community Library has been driven by an enthusiastic group of local residents who were passionate about having a library within walking distance in their community. These dynamic individuals formed a group called Leabhar and worked in partnership with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and Library Service, the RAPID programme, and St. Columbanus N.S., who have provided space for the new library. DLR Libraries will supply all materials, including books, CDs, DVDs and audio books for use by members. Just a few days after the launch of Loughlinstown’s Library, Sallynoggin Community Library formally opened on Tuesday 12th April in Holy Child Community School. Again, thanks to the hard work of a group of dedicated volunteers and the generosity and commitment of the staff of Holy Child Community School, this library is proving to be of enormous value within the community. In addition to its general services, it also offers free internet access and daily newspapers and their first book club will meet on Thursday 19th May 2011. Bestselling authors Martina Devlin and Sarah Webb captivated the large audience with their moving stories about their own early library experiences. Talented music students from the school added to the festive atmosphere whilst entertaining the audience with their classical and contemporary repertoire. According to Mairead Owens, County Librarian, “I am confident that many people from the community will avail of the new services offered by these Community Libraries. We in dlr Libraries are looking forward to supporting the volunteers however we can.” Sallynoggin Community Library is open 6 hours a week, from 4-6pm on Tuesdays and Fridays and 6-8pm on Thursdays. Loughlinstown Community Library is open every Wednesday and Thursday from 3.00-4.00pm. Volunteers at both libraries will be most pleased to hear from new members, who will be able to borrow books, DVDs, CDs or audio books Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Community Collections Information
