IT Access for the visually impaired - Our libraries now provide IT and Internet access for visually impaired people. With ZoomText screen magnification software and JAWS screen-reading software, it is now easier for visually impaired library users to access information technology and the World Wide Web at their local branch. Each of our branches has access to optical scanners and Kurzweil software. These are intended to assist people, adults and children, who are visually impaired. The software will quickly scan in any printed material, e.g. books, leaflets, articles, brochures etc., and the computer will read the text back to the user. Ordnance Survey of Ireland Historic Maps - Did you know that Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Libraries have web-based access to the Ordnance Survey of Ireland's Historic Map Viewer. You can view and print 6" surveys of 1835 and 25" surveys of 1907 from every area of the Republic of Ireland. This is an invaluable tool for anyone with an interest in local history or casual browser's who wish to view their local area. |
