Official launch of the refurbished Stillorgan LibraryFriday 4th November 2011 at 6pmStillorgan Library is situated in St. Laurence’s Park, behind the Leisureplex in Stillorgan. The library in Stillorgan is housed in a 1970s prefabricated structure that is now 35 years old. The provision of a new public library for Stillorgan has been an objective of DLR County Council for many years, particularly because usage is high and the library attracts readers from a wide catchment area. Issues of books and other items increased by 23% in 2009, and usage continued to be high right up to the refurbishment. Success was attributed to the diverse library collection and the dedication of the staff. In 2010 it was decided to improve the fabric of the existing building as an interim measure. The Architects Department of dlr County Council brought imagination and ingenuity to bear on the project. The interior of the building has been opened up and more space created for the enjoyment of the public, and a much improved entrance with a fully accessible ramp was introduced. A new information desk and self-service has been installed. Public toilet facilities have been provided and new wooden flooring installed throughout the building. Dedicated work and rest spaces for staff have also been created. The official re-launch of Stillorgan Library will take place on, Friday 4th November at 6pm. It will be officially opened by Councillor Jane Dillon Byrne, Leas-Cathaoirleach of dlr County Council, with special guest speaker, Monica McInerney. Australian author Monica McInerney, now based in Dublin, has kindly offered to help launch the newly refurbished Stillorgan Library. She is the bestselling and critically acclaimed author of:
