The increase has been achieved by focusing on a suite of delivery options including direct build, acquisitions, void management, long term leasing and private rental. In addition, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council works closely with Approved Housing Bodies who have been instrumental in the delivery of homes for people on our social housing list.
Increasing the supply of housing continues to be a key objective for the County Council with plans to deliver over 300 additional homes in 2017.
Commenting on the figures, An Cathaoirleach Cllr Cormac Devlin said “I am very pleased with the increased supply of social housing across the DLR area. I want to acknowledge the work and support of the Councillors and the staff of the Council who have helped make these figures a reality. We have an ambitious social housing delivery programme underway and we want to see this programme continue to progress so we can alleviate the pressures facing the individuals and families who are on our housing list by supplying much needed accommodation."
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is also committed to making the best use of its Housing Stock through its social housing downsizing campaign by providing new or refurbished units for those people who are in social housing accommodation but now find their home too big for their needs. The downsizing campaign is proving very successful for the Council, releasing much needed larger accommodation for families on the waiting list and at the same time providing the person downsizing with a more manageable home with lower heating bills.
