Daniel English of St. Laurence’s Boys National School, Stillorgan was crowned the Recycled Christmas Decoration Champion at the 15th Annual Award Ceremony.  Daniel was one of 37 School Champions in attendance at County Hall hoping to be crowned the Overall Champion, but it was Daniel’s Christmas tree design made from plastic spoons which impressed the judges the most and helped ladle up the top prize!

Presenting the trophy was An Cathaoirleach Cllr. Tom Murphy who commented “All the children’s decorations were of the highest quality with great imagination and flare shown by the entrants”.

Dean Eaton, Acting Environmental Awareness Officer said “Local children have shown that it’s possible to make your own decorations for little or no cost using everyday items and have proved the best decorations on Christmas trees this year are those the children made themselves.”

"This is the 15th year we have organised the Recycled Christmas Decoration Competition, and each year we are amazed at the quality and ingenuity of the decorations. The children of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown are so creative and imaginative and that is highlighted in their brilliant decorations."

Singers from Dún Laoghaire Evangelical Church were on hand to lead the children in singing a Christmas carols before delivering a Christmas message and Dale Treadwell read from his book Robbie the Christmas Robin.
