Intro Text

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to announce the Launch of  ‘Festival of Inclusion 2016.’  This week long programme of community based activities highlights the year-round work of groups and communities, who work to encourage and support vulnerable and marginalised people to become involved in local social and cultural activities.

This year’s Diversity Fashion Show will kick off the week of events. It will be held with the kind support of Nutgrove Shopping Centre and retailers, on Friday, 7th October at 3.00pm.  The Diversity Fashion extravaganza showcases human diversity and style, with models from all walks of life.  It will be styled by Yvette Byrne and compared by Andrea Hayes, TV3 Animal A & E presenter.  It will be opened by An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Cormac Devlin.

This is the 8th annual social inclusion week and it provides a wonderful opportunity to highlight the excellent work being undertaken County-wide, in creating a fair and inclusive society. The theme of this year’s festival is “Celebrating Difference”; its aim is to increase awareness and understanding of inclusion and diversity in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, to encourage engagement and participation and to support communities experiencing exclusion or marginalisation.

Other ‘Festival of Inclusion’ flagship events:

- the dlr Community 5K in Kilbogget Park, Ballybrack on Saturday 8th October

- the dlr BIG SING -  on Sunday 9th October in Dún Laoghaire Shopping Centre, featuring choirs and voices of all ages and abilities celebrating through music

- the week will end with the Mountains to the Sea Downhill Challenge on  Saturday 15th October - starting at Ticknock Forest Park at 10:00am  and following the Mountain Partnership approved route via Glencullen, Kilternan, Barnaslingan, Lead Mines and Brady’s in Shankill – we want to encourage as many people to participate in this beautiful scenic walk. This is a reasonably challenging walk of about 18K, so a fair degree of fitness is required.  To register for the Mountains to the Sea Down Hill Challenge visit www.mountains2cdownhillchallenge.eventbrite.ie

The week showcases numerous other events including, Musicals, World Café, talks, exhibitions and other activities, with something suitable for  everyone.

The Festival of Inclusion 2016 is co-ordinated by the dlr Social Inclusion Unit and supported by a wide and varied group of organisations and businesses within the County.
