This is in addition to the two Gobases on Carmanhall Road in the Sandyford Business District where Gocars can be rented for short term use.
This is part of European Mobility Week which runs between 16th to 22nd September and its call to action, ‘Sharing Gets You Further‘. Studies show that embracing shared mobility can have a positive impact on our towns and cities. Each shared Gocar, for example, can take 15 private cars off the road.
An Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Councillor Tom Murphy, said;
We are encouraging workers in the Sandyford Business District as part of the Sandyford Smarter Travel project to try out Smarter Travel options such as walking, cycling or using public transport, for some of their weekly commutes or business trips and the pilot car club with Gocar offers an alternative sustainable travel mode to to help them get around the County. Our collective aim is to improve our citizens' quality of life and their journey to and from work".
Currently there are eleven on-street Gobases on public roads in the County as follows; two at Dundrum public car park (beside the Town Centre) , one in Cabinteely Village, two at Blackrock Dart Station, two on Carmanhall Road in Sandyford, two on Crofton Road, one on Haddington Terrace and one on Ardeevin Road in Dalkey. These locations offer convenient connections with DART & Luas stations, as well as dlr LexIcon, Dundrum Town Centre, and many more local amenities with a number of additional Gobases in private development.
Jonathan Roche of GoCar, said: "Today GoCar launches in Sandyford and we want to ensure sustainable mobility alternatives for the 25,000 employees in the area. We want to encourage all citizens in the area to try out GoCar. Car sharing ensures less stress for everyone and as part of European Mobility Week, we are offering a free sign up for new clients".
