At the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Meeting last night, Councillors approved a package of pro-business measures to support local economic development and job creation as follows:
· A Business Support Scheme provides for the payment of a grant to eligible ratepayers equivalent to 4% of their 2016 rates bill subject to a maximum of €400. In effect, this means that the majority of businesses will see a benefit equivalent to a 2.5% reduction in rates;
· The Rates Vacant Property Assistance Scheme was approved whereby relief equivalent to 25% of the rates bill will apply to ratepayers whose rate account was assessed at €10,000 or less for 2016, to a maximum of €2,500. The relevant property must be vacant on the date of the making of the rate, i.e. 3rd February 2017;
· Additional supports for the Vacant Premises Improvement Grant were approved which will provide a grant towards refurbishment for eligible owners of vacant commercial properties. A grant of €5,000 or 50% of the actual cost (whichever is the lesser) to assist with the interior refurbishment of premises at the time of new occupancy will be available.
· Eligible ratepayers may qualify for more than one Business Supports Grant.
Speaking after the meeting An Cathaoirleach of dlr, Cllr Cormac Devlin, said, “I am very pleased that the elected Council supported these business-led initiatives. This is an important package of measures designed to support economic development, support business and grow jobs in our County ensuring quality of life for all our citizens and beyond.”
