CALL FOR VISUAL ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Introduction

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, through its extensive Arts Policy (2007-2010), is committed to producing and supporting artistically ambitious and exciting Arts Programmes across all art forms that stimulate, engage and connect with the local community. It recognizes the centrality of the artist in our society and seeks to support artistic engagement with the public through its wide-ranging service.

The current Artist in Residency Programme includes the dlr Airfield Residency; Writer in Residence, Mia Gallagher in residence at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT); and Artist Julie Merriman in residency with the Dún Laoghaire Harbour Board.

These residencies are co funded by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, the Arts Council and host partners.


Airfield

Airfield is a 35 acre site in Dundrum, with a working farm and gardens, giftshop, print studio and cafe. Airfield endeavours to provide opportunities on the farm and in the gardens for the whole community to connect with and learn about the natural world Its cultural programme is inspired by nature and the seasonal cycle and works in synergy with all of Airfield’s activities including its farm, gardens and education programme. Airfield also endeavours to support artists who work in the context of the natural world by presenting new work and offering a forum for learning, debate and the exchange of ideas.


dlr Airfield Artist Residency Brief

The duration of the Airfield residency is six months and will commence in Summer/ Autumn 2010 . The residency is open to visual artists across all disciplines including craft practitioners. The brief asks artists to address the residency objectives through their arts practices:

Selection will be made by way of an open submission competition.

Please ensure that all submitted material is clearly marked with the applicant’s name. Dlr Arts will endeavor to return the submission if a stamped self-addressed envelope is included. Dlr Arts will not insure the contents of submissions, and does not accept liability for the loss of submissions.

Criteria for selection

Selection Panel

The selection panel includes a practising artist, and a staff member from Airfield and dlr Arts.

 

In advance of the residency the following will be agreed:

Budget information

The total budget for the residency is €12,000. This amount is to be fully inclusive of the artist’s fee, materials and other related costs as agreed.

 

Tax and Insurance requirements

When appointed, the successful artist(s) will be required to provide Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council with a tax clearance certificate, evidence of artists’ exemption and evidence of public liability insurance to a specified amount prior to signing of contracts.

Support from Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and Airfield

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s Arts Officer and Airfield’s Arts Officer will act as the liaison support between the artist, the local authority and Airfield Trust during the selection process and throughout the residency. D ú n Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Arts Office will be responsible for administering contracts and payments to artists.

Freedom of Information

The provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 1997-2003 apply to Dún Laoghaire- Rathdown County Council. Applicants should state if any of the information supplied by them is confidential or sensitive and should not be disclosed to a request for information under the aforementioned Act.

Prompt Payments

Under the Prompt Payments Accounts Act, the Local Authority is obliged to pay upon receipt of invoice within 30 days.
