Geraldine Plunkett and An Cathaoirleach Cllr John Bailey On Wednesday 23rd May on a beautiful day in Dalkey Community Unit and Day Care Services for Older People well-known actress and Bealtaine Festival Ambassador Geraldine Plunkett launched “Reignite the Spark”. An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. John Bailey officially welcomed everyone and congratulated all involved. Trish McMahon interpreted the launch on the day using Irish Sign Language (ISL).

“Reignite the Spark” is a snapshot of the Arts and Health Partnership between dlr Arts Office and the HSE, Health Promotion Service, Dublin Mid Leinster that has been working quietly but to great effect for the past four years in residential and day care settings across the County. The partnership programme ensures that traditionally hard to reach members of our community, such as those with disabilities, mental health illnesses, or long term conditions such as dementia have opportunities to engage in the cultural life of the County. From intergenerational drama, dance in the community, to storytelling through clay, participants, staff and visitors from the following health care settings have been involved in the programme:

“Reignite the Spark” is an integrated Braille document reflecting the participants profile from St. Josephs House and tells the story of the partnership programme from the perspectives of all involved. A pdf version of the document is available (pdf - 4.20MB) and an integrated Braille version is available from the Arts Office.
