€100,000 Roads Public Art Commission – currently under commission

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council recently invited submissions from artists for a Per Cent for Art scheme commission with a budget of €100,000 for the Southern Cross & the South Eastern Motorways.

The two schemes complete the motorway ring around Dublin with the aim of providing a high quality road to facilitate both national and local journeys. The M50 ring road is one of the major transport routes on the outskirts of Dublin and the commissioners wish to mark it with a landmark site-specific permanent artwork. The two NRA schemes, one from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and one from South Dublin County Council, have been pooled to allow a total commission budget of €100,000.

Proposals were invited from artists working either on their own or in collaboration with others. Selection will be by way of a two-stage open submission competition and four artists have been short-listed to develop specific detailed proposals for the second stage. The closing date for the second stage is 22 nd September and it is anticipated that the final artwork will be selected by the end of October.
