Fishamble: The New Play Company and the Mill Theatre are delighted to announce details of a new, year-long Mentoring Programme for the professional development of playwrights and theatre directors. This scheme will run from February – November 2012 and is supported by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Arts Office.

The Mentoring Programme has been designed to support directors, playwrights and theatre makers living or based in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown area. Anyone interested in applying should fill in a completed application form and send this, with a cv, to the Mill Theatre by 5pm, 25 November. The Programme is free for those chosen to participate and numbers are limited.

The programme will take place over a period of ten months, with meetings taking place once a month, and will have two strands. You must be available to attend all sessions.

Strand 1: Writers

Participants will work with Gavin Kostick, Literary Manager with Fishamble: The New Play Company, to look at different writing styles and techniques to assist their creative development. The mentor will also offer constructive criticism and feedback on work created in that time.

Strand 2: Directors

Participants will work with Jim Culleton, Artistic Director with Fishamble: The New Play Company, and possibly other theatre directors, to look at directing processes and approaches. Participants will also be encouraged to direct throughout the programme so that feedback on their directing processes can be given, to assist their creative development.

This programme will commence in February 2012. Please contact Karen Carleton at the Mill Theatre for further information by email Manager@milltheatre.ie or tel. 01 2969340

The Mill Theatre was born in 2006 out of a shared passion for theatre music and the arts. The vision, energy and creativity that were the catalysts then still inspire and now five years later the theatre is looking forward to an exciting new phase. We want to build our audiences, build our relationships with theatre practitioners and build our reputation. The Mill is now set to become a centre for excellence and innovation. 2012 will see a number of new initiatives beginning with a series of workshops and public readings of new work starting in January.

Central to the commitment to engage with our audiences and theatre artists who work at the venue is the Mentoring Programme due to start in February. We are delighted to be partnered on this programme by Fishamble: The New Play Company.
