Irish Youth Dance Festival 2002Featuring Irish Youth Dance Groups including companies from Waterford, Wexford, Belfast, Dun Laoghaire and Oxfordshire, UK.
Directed by JJ Formento. Following the sell out success of last year+s Youth Dance Festival, Dublin Youth Dance Company present the 2nd Irish Youth Dance Festival in the Pavilion Theatre, Dun Laoghaire on Sunday 18th August 2002. It promises to be an unforgettable evening supporting and encouraging the artistic development of our young dance community.

The festival features a number of newly commissioned pieces choreographed by both new and established figures in the Irish dance world. These works include works by Mariam Ribbon (Coisceim Dance Company), company member Rachel Wynne and a new work by professional dancer Niamh Condron from (This Tortion Dance Company). The evening will also feature the Irish National Youth Ballet, +Echo Echo Dance Company+ from Derry and the Cherwell Youth Dance Company from Oxfordshire in the UK. This is the second phase of an exchange programme between Cherwell Youth Dance Company and the Dublin Youth Dance Company.

The evening will also feature music by Dejimbe - an Irish based precussion band that fuse Carribean, West African and Irish rhythms from Djembes to Uilleann pipes.

Dublin Youth Dance Company is funded in part by the Arts Office of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. The company has approximately 20 voluntary member ranging from 15-25 from all over Dublin, many aspire to train and work as professional dancers. Other funding contributors include the Department of Arts Heritage and the Arts Council of Ireland.
