The Concourse Installation 2005
Linda Quinlan
29 November – 13 December 2005
I want you around
The materials incorporated in the imaginative environments Quinlan constructs evoke associations on a historical, architectural and technological level, they describe a certain fragility that reflects our mortality and the world we live in. These installations hark back to our first attempts at construction with Lego and Sticklebricks, but contain a similar sense of awe and wonder found in the strangest science-fiction films and literature.Working mostly on site and often reconfiguring materials from previous pieces, Quinlan’s labours are obsessive, condensed and ultimately temporary which adds a crucial time based element to her practice.
Linda Quinlan was born in Cork in 1977.There she graduated with a BA from the Crawford College. In 2003 she received her MA from NCAD, Dublin. Recent exhibitions include, Passing Though, Lewis Glucksman Gallery, Superbia2, and Eurojets Anthology at the RHA, Dublin. In 2004 David Thorpe awarded her Emerging Artist Prizewinner at the Claremorris Open. She is currently working on a project commissioned by BG2, Ballymun Regeneration Ltd and preparing for a solo exhibition in May 2006 at the Fenton Gallery, Cork.
