The Grainstore
The Grainstore is unique. 10 years on and it's still the only dedicated Youth Arts Facility in Ireland. It's always been ahead in the development of Youth Arts in Ireland and with the help of the Youth Arts Action Committee it with continue to present a way of working that values the creativity of young people.
It's a place were young people can try stuff out, develop work in media they haven't worked with before and importantly, a place young people can approach with their own ideas and be facilitated in realising their ideas.
Since the facility was opened in November 1999, The Grainstore has been
an important local amenity for young people within Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown
County. The local voluntary committee through their dedicated work nurtured
many young musicians, artists, filmmakers, dancers and actors.
In September 2008 management of The Grainstore was taken over by the Arts
Office, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, and renamed as DLR
Youth Arts at The Grainstore to reflect the county wide remit. Significant
renovations and refurbishments have taken place in the building since then.
It is now a very comfortable and suitable space for youth groups to work
creatively in. Located in the heart of The Park, Cabinteely, it is a picturesque
building in which to actively engage in the arts and a very valuable asset
to hundreds of young people around the county and further afield.
The Grainstore includes a multipurpose hall for dance, exhibitions, performances
etc, a large workshop space, a rehearsal room, a music tuition/film room,
an artist studio, a reception area, an office and an outdoor space that
is suitable for a wide range of activities. Currently the facility runs
art classes, dance classes, musical rehearsals, band rehearsals, music tuition
and we are about to embark on an exciting new programme.
