New Residential Parking Zones for Dún Laoghaire
The Council agreed a new Residential Parking Zone Scheme for Dún Laoghaire at the Council meeting on Monday, 8 November 2010. At the moment, residents permit holders in Dún Laoghaire can park for €40 per year anywhere in Dún Laoghaire, which extends from Sandycove to York Road on the east and west, and from the seafront to the north of Tivoli Road. This is no longer sustainable - there are 1,800 on-street parking spaces available in Dún Laoghaire, and 1,650 resident parking permits have issued.
Dún Laoghaire residents in the main do not have access to off-street parking. Parking Control was introduced in 2001 to give residents access to on-street parking and discourage all-day parking. Visitors, residents, employees and shoppers are all competing for a limited number of on-street parking spaces and retailers have suggested that there is reduced turnover in parking spaces in the retail areas.
There is no increase in the price of the resident parking permit, and the new permit zone will apply only on renewal of the resident permit by residents.
Three hour maximum parking zones in residential areas which no longer have high occupation due to the introduction of P&D will be reviewed and adjusted to all day parking subject to Area Committee approval. In Dún Laoghaire and other urban areas where there is high demand in three hour parking areas, the Council do not intend to make changes to the existing maximum parking periods of the Scheme.
The new parking zones will come into effect for new applicants on the 1st January 2011. Existing permits will be valid until renewal date.
The zones are described in the related links.
