Pre-Planning Consultation Discussions

The Planning Department welcomes enquiries from developers, architects and members of the public who are preparing a development proposal.  By written appointment, a pre-planning application consultation can be arranged with an Area Planner.

The Planning Authority will keep a record of any such consultations which will be a matter of public record on foot of a planning application being subsequently lodged.

Consultations are by written appointment only at the offices of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Council Council, County Hall, Marine Road, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.

The carrying out of such consultations shall not prejudice the performance by a Planning Authority of any other of its functions under the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended, and cannot be relied upon in the formal Planning process or in legal proceedings.

Development Management Thresholds Information Document

Supplement to Planning Application

The Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Development Plan 2010-2016 was adopted dated 8th April, 2010.  The enclosed thresholds which derive from the Plan, are intended as a guideline to assist applicants who intend on lodging planning applications for, generally:

1. Commercial floor over 250sq.m or, educational/medical/community developments

2. Residential development of one or more units

By assessing the 'Key Thresholds' table and the main Thresholds List, applicants will be informed as to what they may be required to submit as part of their planning application.  This could assist in the pre-application process and obviate the need for, or minimise, subsequent Further Information requests by the planning Authority.

This supplementary information is not a substitute for a Pre-planning meeting (which can be arranged by contacting the Planning Department, email: preplanning@dlrcoco.ie ) and it is advised that potential applicants familiarise themselves with the Thresholds Information Document prior to any such meeting.

This document identifies Development management thresholds.  The list is not, however, intended to be exhaustive and it may also be subject to changes in response to variations to the Development Plan over time.

Note: Some thresholds for particular developments may be determined on a case-by-case basis by the Planning Authority, or by other specific requirements, and are therefore not listed in the Key Thresholds table.
