Social Inclusion
Social Inclusion Week
Social Inclusion 2012:
13th – 20th October
Get Involved: Be Included
What is Social Inclusion Week?
Social Inclusion week provides an opportunity for you to showcase the great work you and your community are doing to combat poverty and support communities in working together, learning new skills, meeting each other and improving the quality of life for everyone in the area.
Would you like to get involved? What you need to start doing now is:
Think about the work you are doing this year and then think about which pieces of this have a Social Inclusion focus? For example: Are you working on a project that deals with respect and equality? Are you bringing the community together to get to know each other? Helping younger people with their homework or older people to learn computer skills?
If you’d like to be included on our website, advertising material and flyer, please contact Betty Wogan (bwogan@dlrcoco.ie / 2054700). Forms must be in by 26th June 2012.
Top Tips:
- Work together… rather than having nine separate events, why don’t you work together and maybe have three events? You can share the workload and the cost and also get to know each other when working together on the project.
- Tell People – don’t forget to let your communities know what you are planning, so you can get lots of people involved!

Social Inclusion is about ensuring full and equal participation for everyone. Social inclusion is about supporting people who may be marginalised, or at risk of being marginalised, because of their age, race, religion, ability and so forth.
Social Inclusion Week is an opportunity to hold a series of positive actions that support people to achieve equality, participation, recognition, and supporting people to be able to contribute to social and cultural life and to be aware of, and challenge all types of discrimination
In 2010, over seventy organisations, groups and schools took part in Social Inclusion Week, making it the most successful to date, and we are hoping to build on that success this year.
