The County Council employs approximately 1,200 staff in various Clerical/Administrative, Professional/ Technical and Craft/Manual grades.
The Human Resources Department is concerned with all matters in relation to human resource management within the organisation.
Recruitment
The main entry grades to the Local Government service are Clerical Officer, Clerical Officer (Keyboard Skills), Assistant Staff Officer, Library Assistant, and the various Technician posts at Grade II level. Recruitment to these grades is by open competition, which is advertised in the national press from time to time. Persons are selected on the basis of personal interview and educational qualifications.
Assistant Staff Officer: Leaving Certificate with 3 honours or equivalent qualification.
Technician II: National Certificate in the relevant discipline.
Professional Staff: Recruitment to the Senior professional grades (such as Engineers, Architects, Planners) is by open public competition which is administered by the Local Appointments Commission. However, the County Council recruits professionals at Graduate, Assistant and Executive level, on its own behalf.
Outdoor Staff: Recruitment of Tradesmen, Outdoor Staff, General Operatives, and other outdoor staff is generally through FÁS, or through public competition, advertised in the national press.
In 1997, the County Council was awarded the Positive to Disability Symbol and job applications from persons with disabilities are welcomed.
