The allocation of new or previously occupied dwellings to qualified applicants on the Council’s housing list is a primary function of the Department.
Applicants being considered for housing accommodation must satisfy the Council that they are
- eligible for Social Housing Support and
- have a housing need
A Social Housing Support List is compiled annually, setting out each applicants placing in the areas of their choice within the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Area.
The priority to which housing applicants are entitled is determined in accordance with the Housing Allocations Scheme 2011 (pdf - 123kb) adopted by the Council and approved by the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government.
Applications from Council tenants seeking transfer to alternative accommodation, mutual interchange of tenancies with other local authority tenants and transfer of tenancy titles are also dealt with by the Allocations Section.
Appropriate action is also taken by the Department in relation to overcrowded or unfit dwellings of housing applicants to ensure, where possible, that the problem is eliminated.
This action generally involves the service of relevant notices on the owners of the dwellings concerned.
