Beaches
Please note that the closing date for submissions on the Draft Beach Bye Laws has now passed.
The following beaches are maintained by the Council:
- Seapoint
- Killiney
- Sandycove
- White Rock Beach
- Corbawn Beach
The Council carries out an extensive beach-cleaning programme on all beaches and acknowledges the importance to the community of such a valuable amenity.
Lifeguards
Lifeguards are employed during the summer period on Seapoint, Killiney and Sandycove beaches. The lifeguard service is normally provided from June to August, but the periods of cover vary each year. When this service commences, details of this cover will be displayed at the beaches and published on the website.
Irish Water Safety
Irish Water Safety is the statutory body established to promote water safety in Ireland. Their role is to educate people in water safety best practices and to devlop public awareness campaigns to promote necessary attitudes, rescue skills and behaviour to prevent drownings and water related accidents. www.iws.ie

Beach Bye Laws
In order to make the beach area safe and pleasant for everybody, a number of restrictions are in place relating to litter, dogs, jet-skis and noise.
Anyone operating a jet ski must hold a permit issued by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. Jet skis may only be operated between the hours of 7.30pm and 10am and must stay 300 metres from the foreshore except when launching.

Filming on Beaches along the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Coastline and at Cemeteries
Filming may be permitted on any of the County Council’s beaches and cemeteries with the consent of the Council and subject to the terms, conditions and fees associated with such consent.
Conditions & Charges:
- Public Liability Insurance cover to the value of €6.5million indemnifying the Council is a requirement for commercial activities. A copy of the Policy must be forwarded to this department before the filming commences.
- Charges are as follows:-
- 1 – 4 hours: €120 per hour with a minimum charge of €240.
- 4 hours plus: – daily rate €800
- For prolonged uses, which involve specific arrangements, the charges may be subject to negotiation.
- Non-Commercial photography may be permitted free of charge, subject to permission from the Culture, Community Development & Amenities Department.
- Students from an accredited college, requesting to film for projects etc., must request permission in writing and submit a copy of the Colleges Public Liability Insurance indemnifying the Council against any claims, in the amount of €6.5 million. There shall be no charge for actual filming.
- During filming, beach bye-laws must be strictly adhered to.
Public Conveniences
The Council operates public toilets at the following locations:
- Killiney (carpark adjacent to Dart Station)
- Seapoint (Beach)
- People’s Park
- Whiterock / Vico Road
The opening hours are as follows:
- Winter (1st Nov – 28th Feb) - Open weekends only between 8am – 4.30pm (except Seapoint & Peoples Park which will open 7 days)
- Spring (1st Mar – 30th Apr) - Open 7 days between 8am – 6.30pm
- Summer (1st May – 31st Aug) - Open 7 days between 7.30am – 9.30pm
- Autumn (1st Sept – 31st Oct) - Open 7 days between 8am – 6.30pm
A Universal Superloo is located at Sandycove Avenue West. The charge for usage is 0.50c.
