Councillor John Bailey (Fine Gael)
Councillor John Bailey was elected Cathaoirleach of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council at the Annual County Council meeting on Monday June 13th. John is married to Angela and they have five daughters. John was elected to the Council in 2004 on the same day that his daughter, Cllr Maria Bailey was elected to the County Council in the Ballybrack Ward.
John has been a loyal supporter of Fine Gael throughout his life and his commitment to the party and innovative ideas were recognised when the Party Leader, Enda Kenny T.D appointed him to the Fine Gael Dublin Task Force as Vice Chairperson. In this role, John contributed to the plan for the rejuvenation of Fine Gael throughout Dublin, a task and an honour which he thoroughly enjoyed.
A GAA enthusiast, John served ten years as Chairman of the Dublin GAA County Board. During his tenure he initiated the building of Parnell Park and significant investment in promoting juvenile participation in sport. He is a long time member of the Cuala GAA Club in Dalkey.
In his role as a County Councillor, John has worked closely with the public, community groups and residents’ associations to ensure the betterment of his constituency. He sits on a number of committees including the following:

- Member of Dun Laoghaire VEC
- Chairman of the Board of Management of Sallynoggin Further College of Education
- Director of the Dalkey Heritage Town Company
- Member of the Council Sub-Committee on Dun Laoghaire Baths
- Member of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council's Corporate Policy Group
Cllr John Bailey prides himself on being an "on the ground" politician, committed to representing his constituency and working closely with the public. His political viewpoint is summarised quite effectively in his slogan "Putting People First" and the “Local Man”.

Councillor Jane Dillon-Byrne (Labour)
Councillor Jane Dillon-Byrne, a Labour Councillor for the Dun Laoghaire electoral area and a founder member of the Irish section of Amnesty International, was first elected to the Blackrock electoral area of Dun Laoghaire Borough Corporation in 1974. Councillor Dillon Byrne was subsequently elected to the Dun Laoghaire electoral area in 1986 and is one of the longest serving Councillors in the Dublin region. She served as Cathaoirleach in 1975, the International Year of the Woman.
Since then she has been actively involved in a range of public and semi-state bodies, including being a member of the Arts Council of Ireland for 5 years in the mid 1990’s. She has sat on the boards of NCAD and IADT in Dun Laoghaire and is currently a board member of the Pavilion Theatre and the Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company. Councillor Dillon Byrne is also a founder and Board member of the Tivoli Centre in Dun Laoghaire, which provides training, counselling and support for young people.
