Grants
| Procedures for grant application | Grant categories Introduction to Community Grants The aim of the Community Department of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has always been to... “help communities to identify their needs... come to terms with those needs and having done so... to meet those needs.” Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council operates a Community Grants Scheme, which seeks to assist groups in addressing local issues by offering financial assistance from a limited fund. Grants are available to a diverse range of community groups. However, the focus of this Scheme is to promote community based initiatives, which seek to promote the principles of Community Development i.e. fostering inclusion, equality, participation and change. The Council supports this aim by providing a very comprehensive community development and support service through its team of Community Workers. Considerable assistance is available to community groups from this source and from other departments of the Council. The Community Development Department has two local offices, with staff working directly with groups, divided into two geographical areas, i.e. the Dun Laoghaire side of the county and the Dundrum side of the county. Special provision is made for areas of the County, referred to as: CODAN (County of Dublin Areas of Need) These areas have been designated as disadvantaged given the levels of unemployment and lack of access to resources experienced by these communities. Increased levels of financial support are available to areas designated in the CODAN Report produced in 2000.
