Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council announces Seán O'Reilly as Writer in Residence for IADT

 

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to announce Sean O'Reilly as writer in residence for the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT), Dún Laoghaire 

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, through its extensive Arts Programme, is committed to producing and supporting artistically ambitious and exciting Arts Programmes across all art forms that stimulate, engage and connect with the public or local community and runs an extensive residency programme across many art forms.

The Artist in Residency Programme 2008 includes includes the following residencies: Sean O'Reilly, short story and fiction writer at the IADT; Julie Merriman - Fine Artist - in a residency with the Harbour Board, Jennie Moran, sculptor at Airfield Trust, Dundrum and Métier, DLR Jazz Ensemble in Residence. DLR Arts also has two writers' bursaries which run in alternate years, the Beckett Bursary and the Hugh Leonard Bursary (awarded to Claire Keegan in 2007). The Writer in Residence initiative in collaboration with IADT has been in place since 2002. Previous collaborations between IADT and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Arts Office include writers in residence, Caitriona O'Reilly, Peter Sirr and Katie Donovan.

The IADT residency is hosted by the School of Business and Humanities has much to offer the realisation of the knowledge economy in Ireland and in the EU. The School's strengths are: a dedicated, well-qualified staff, committed to learning and teaching, with a proven research track record, offering a unique suite of programmes in an environment which is student centred. The School has a vibrant undergraduate and post graduate population. The BA in English Media and Cultural Studies is committed to promoting the practice of writing, and to developing new audiences for Irish and international writing and the writer in residence will make a significant contribution to the School and the programme.

Sean O'Reilly was born in Derry in 1969 and is the author of the short story collection, Curfew and Other Stories (2000), and the novels, Love and Sleep (2002) and The Swing of Things (2004) and Watermark (2006). Sean has completed residencies with, Fingal City Council, the Verbal Arts Centre in Derry and Dublin City Council.
