Seachange - A video piece by artist Patricia McKenna
Seachange
A video piece by artist Patricia McKenna
VIEW CLIP OF SEACHANGE DVD
Seachange was commissioned by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council as part of the 'Place & Identity' Per Cent for Art programme. It is based on a temporary artwork which the artist created on Sandycove Beach in September 2008.
For the artwork, Patricia created brightly coloured gelatine pieces, loosely
based on fish and other forms, that were placed on the beach at low tide.
They gradually dissolved and drifted out to sea, leaving no trace of the
work. Patricia is concerned with the idea of time and how we cannot hold
it or stop things from changing or moving on. The video was first shown
in the Institute of Art, Design & Technology (IADT), Kill Avenue, Dún
Laoghaire on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th November.
Patricia McKenna was born in Dublin and studied at the National College of Art and Design. She works in multi-media and site-specific installation. She has exhibited widely in Ireland, England, the USA and Europe and has been awarded a number of Arts Council travel grants and awards. Patricia currently lives in Monkstown, Co. Dublin.
