DLR Creative Classrooms - Programme for Primary School Children
DLR Arts Office call for Artists Panel 2009/2010
DLR Arts Office Artists in Schools Programme was initiated in 1994 and since this time over 100 schools have participated in the programme. The aim of the programme has been to facilitate experiences for primary school children to interact and collaborate with professionals from the art world. To date the arts office has offered both a residency and outreach programme. The residency offers the children and teachers an opportunity to work with an arts facilitator for a period of time within the school year. The outreach programme links with DLR Arts Programme and the primary schools have an opportunity to experience DLR Poetry Now, Flip Flop: the Children's International Theatre Festival and the Visual Arts Programme.
From the academic year 2008/2009 the DLR Arts Office will develop the traditional Artists in Schools Programme into Creative Classrooms. The emphasis in 2008/2009 will be to support teachers to focus on the cognitive processes of children. The programme will operate from the premise that creativity is not separate from academia but rather an essential characteristic of thinking, knowing and learning. Creative Classrooms will support teachers from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown in developing the necessary skills to foster and harness opportunities for children to problem solve and think critically and creatively thereby becoming innovative, enterprising and equipped for their futures.
This new programme is in the process of being developed in partnership
with Blackrock Education Centre.
