Study into the social & economic impact of the arts in DLR
IADT and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are pleased to announce the launch of a project which will investigate and assess the impact of the arts – social and economic – in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area. The proposed project is in keeping with the dlr County Development Board’s overall vision for the county for 2012 which includes the improvement in the overall quality of life for everyone living in, working in or visiting dlr. This collaborative opportunity was developed by the School of Business and Humanities at IADT and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and a business graduate has been awarded a research bursary to undertake the study.
The theme of the project is to investigate the value of the arts to the local economy. When the research is complete it will be submitted for consideration for the award of Master of Arts by research at IADT and the Council will receive a comprehensive report on the findings. The study will analyse the impact and value in a number of different art forms and cultural projects in the county.
This study is particularly relevant in the current economic climate, as increasingly the socio-economic impact of the arts has attracted much attention in relation to the rationale for public investment in the cultural sector. The research findings will be of interest to many key stakeholders in the county and beyond, and will inform future cultural policy development within dlr.
This project is being undertaken by Ms. Blaithin McLoughlin, a first class honours business graduate from IADT, who has extensive business and academic experience. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has established an advisory committee to oversee the project, provide expertise and facilitate various aspects of the study.
